Acquisition editors are very busy people.  Believe us, we know.  The sad truth is that when things are busy an unsolicited manuscript has about 10 seconds to get the editor's attention before he or she decides to read further, set it aside to read later (which doesn't happen), or reject it immediately.  If the submission gets read further, there are several key factors that determine whether it's taken seriously or not.  All of these things can cause your work to be rejected before the editor has ever really absorbed your concept!
